On November 7, Wang Feixue, the leader of the Beidou team at the National University of Defense Technology, and his comrades together greeted the long-awaited "children": Beidou-1 digital fast capture and signal receiving system equipment. After 12 years of uninterrupted and stable operation, this equipment known as the Beidou System “Clairvoyance” retired and returned to its “hometown” in Changsha.

Quality is life, quality is odds
In 2017, the lecturer Chen Lei found that some indicators were defective when a project was tackled. At this time, the task period was over half, and overturning it may not complete the task on time and even affect the construction of the Beidou III system. Overturned or reluctant to cross?
The same torment, associate researcher Tang Xiaomei also encountered in the Beidou-2 project. At that time, endless problems left the team in the shadow of frustration.
Never lowering the bar because of so many difficulties, they made the same choice: overturn.
"We have strong technical support, and the difficulties are not terrible. The greater challenge comes from quality control." Liu Xiaohui, the chief quality engineer of the center, said, "Without a strict quality control system and processes, everything may return to zero."
Carry out scientific research management innovation, implement a matrix scientific research organization model, and establish a "three-line" control system for the command line, technology line, and quality line ... In accordance with the service target requirements of Beidou III before the end of the year, the progress of the network project undertaken by the center this year has been advanced by an average of 2 months, with tests being delivered almost every day. On December 27, the construction of the Beidou III basic system was completed and services were provided to the world. After the excitement, the center personnel continued to invest in the actual combat of the Beidou system and its innovative technology research.
Cohesive Innovation Team
In August this year, external employee Mao Erkun was hired as a senior expert.
From the "small workshop" of several people to the "big team" of nearly 300 people, two-thirds of the center's external staff have covered 24 years, covering various positions such as technology research and development, comprehensive management, logistic support and so on.
At one time, two Beidou-3 satellites had signal failures one after another, and the comrades responsible for tackling the problem rushed to tears. There was no blame, the center leaders took the initiative to take responsibility, the project teams' professional groups supported each other, gathered intelligence to solve the problem, and completed the system on-orbit upgrade in just 3 months to ensure the stable operation of the satellite.
"Difficulties are always present from the demonstration of the scheme to the practical implementation." Professor Ou Gang said, "But we never fear, we win with victory, and we fight with defeat."
In recent years, the center has insisted on not deciding on qualifications and levels, and leaning towards front-line strugglers in terms of doctoral stay, professional title selection, merit awards, and performance evaluation.
